Room to Live
A kinder plan for a crowded world
Some places are cramped and super busy. Other places have room. Room to Live is a voluntary offer for families who want more space – nobody is forced.
The idea
- A guide for everyone. The religion books will be modernised and offered – alongside the originals, never forced – with a new Guide to Good Living for people with no religion, and a new religion book will be written with Tony’s input to AI. Each starts with how it all began, then how things were and what we are aiming for, as interactive videos updated every year.
- A free family draw. Families who want more room enter a free draw and move together – all living generations of the immediate family.
- Points for being good. Skills the new town needs and being a good neighbour add chances; offences take points away. Every family keeps its free entry.
- A fair offer. Open to everyone, saying no costs nothing, a trial period and the right to come back, and a home, work, school places, transport and a welcome.
- Your choice each year. Rent and move once a year, or stay put – with the option to return to your local area. Families with school children move at the start of the school year, and everyone gets priority to go back to their home area.
- Towns get ready first. Towns are asked first and get doctors, schools and buses ready before anyone arrives.
- Never too full. Islands like England can’t spread out (about 450 people per km²). Every area gets a sensible limit based on its land, water, homes, GPs, schools, roads and trains, and people move in only as fast as the town can build.
- Fair for rich and poor. People who can afford it can pay a fair tax that goes up with income to earn points; everyone else earns points just by being good. Every family keeps its free entry, and the tax helps families who can’t afford to move.
- An AI future. Everyone gets a living wage – a basic allowance from the government – and can work for extra money and points if they like. Electricity, water and gas are free, paid by the government and powered by the most efficient solar panels. A stronger NHS, with GPs and hospitals ready in every town.
- AI helps people choose. A place that suits them – honest about the downsides – and working from home means they can keep their job.
- New land to live on. Solar-powered desalination units could turn dry coastal land into places to live and farm, with the salty waste handled safely.
It needs peace. Obviously the world would have to stop fighting for this to happen – it needs nations working together, not against each other. Religions need to respect one another.
There will be teething problems – it just takes patience. It would take time!
